The Smith County Medical Society Alliance has been promoting education in the Health Sciences for over 70 years, first by offering loans to nursing students, and today by offering scholarships to undergraduate college students enrolled in Allied Health Sciences.
Each year about 75% of our Book Fair Foundation earnings are made available to the Scholarship Committee to fund scholarships to students at University of Texas at Tyler and Tyler Junior College.  To date, over $700,000.00 has been distributed, thanks to the Book Fair!
Our scholarships are awarded primarily on the basis of academic achievement, through a computation which also considers other factors. Students must have completed prerequisites for their major and submit an application and transcript for consideration.

In 2008, we began our first endowment for post-graduate study at the University of Texas at Tyler, the Masters of Nursing endowment.  On March 26, 2010 during the Doctors' Day Gala, a check for $25,000 was presented to Dr. Mabry, President of the University of Texas at Tyler in honor of physicians for National Doctors' Day.  This check completely funded the Masters Endowment and included $15,000 in scholarships given that year.

In 2015, we were able to donate $10,000.00 to TJC''s new nursing program at the Robert M. Rogers Health and Sciences Center in addition to our scholarships given that year.  The Society matched our donation to TJC.
