The Smith County Medical Society Alliance has been promoting education in the Health Sciences for over 70 years, first by offering loans to nursing students, and today by offering scholarships to undergraduate college students enrolled in Allied Health Sciences.

Each year about 75% of our Book Fair Foundation earnings are made available to the Scholarship Committee for distribution to the students of the University of Texas at Tyler and Tyler Junior College. To date, over $450,000 has been distributed, thanks to the Book Fair!

Our scholarships are awarded primarily on the basis of academic achievement, through a computation which also considers other factors. Students must have completed prerequisites for their major and submit an application and transcript for consideration.  The deadline for submission is a postmark of March 1.

In 2008, we began our first endowment for post-graduate study at the University of Texas at Tyler, the Masters of Nursing endowment, which should be available after 2010.
